The Best Options for Your Outdoor Countertops

There’s nothing quite like entertaining guests outside. Whether it’s in your backyard with twinkling lights or on your patio with a firepit, an outdoor party is sure to be one that everybody enjoys. In a time when social distancing is key, outdoor entertainment is the way to go.

To enjoy your outdoor area to the fullest extent, you need to have the perfect countertop. The last thing you want is to be constantly worrying about the material—whether it’s safe during weather events or will sustain over the years. You want a material that’s gorgeous and timeless, all the while being durable and long lasting.

At Cameo Countertops, we’re proud to offer a wide variety of countertop materials that work well for outdoor spaces. We understand that the qualifications for an outdoor countertop differ slightly from those used indoors, and we’ve taken that into account when compiling this list of the best countertops to use for your outdoor area.

Whether the event is just you and the family chilling outside after dinner, or a large party with a lot of activity, these countertops will be able to handle it all.

Granite

When it comes to outdoor countertops, granite is probably the most popular choice. The reason it’s the most popular is that it’s one of the best options out there. Not only is it unique and good looking, but it also can take almost whatever heat, stains, and liquids you throw at it.

As long as you make sure that your granite countertop is sealed correctly, it will last for ages and also be resistant to chips, mold, and mildew. This is a great comfort when it’s used outdoors because the last thing you want is for the elements to seep into whatever food you’re preparing. Granite will make sure that doesn’t happen.

Granite is easy to maintain, and its beauty won’t fade over time—even when it’s placed under the sun.

Quartzite

Much like granite, quartzite is also quite durable. It won’t sustain any damage from the sun or weather because it’s resistant to damage caused by heat and liquids. The key to natural stones is making sure that they’re sealed correctly—as long as that happens, you’re pretty much set to go.

Quartzite is incredibly easy to clean; soap and water work just fine for this stone. It calls for a small degree of care—using cutting boards, pot holders, and practicing quick cleanup for spills—but we don’t think that’s too much to ask for when it comes to a stone that will last for generations outdoors.

Soapstone

Soapstone is a great choice for outdoor spaces because it’s naturally nonporous, which means it’s impossible for liquid, mold, or mildew to seep below the surface and damage the material. Hot pots and pans can even be placed directly onto the surface without causing any damage, which is great for those who like to grill out.

Soapstone is also incredibly durable, as it’s almost impossible for natural elements to damage it. It won’t be negatively affected by rain—or snow and salt during the off-season.

Another reason why our customers love soapstone is that it’s so easy to clean. If you wanted, you could even spray it down with your garden hose.

Marble

Marble might be a surprising addition to the list because many see it as a natural stone that falls on the more fragile side of the spectrum. While it is a bit more prone to damage than, say, granite—that doesn’t mean it isn’t suitable for your outdoor entertainment area.

In order for your marble countertop to look as good as possible, we recommend choosing a honed finish over a polished one. The reason behind this is because a polished finish tends to be more delicate, and it’s possible for the weather to wear it away. With a honed finish, that’s less likely to happen.

Marble is known for the beautiful way that it ages naturally. If you’re interested in a rustic-looking marble stone, the rain can make that happen for you by washing out stains and blending in the etches.
