Since it is Halloween, we thought it would be the perfect time to give you a good scare! In this blog, you will be terrified to learn about how you have been damaging your countertops! Yes, our materials are very durable; however, they are not immortal. These common errors can cause your countertops to look a little ghostly.

Scratches

We are not going to ban your weapons, you might need them to fight off goblins and ghouls this year. We are, however, going to suggest that you use a cutting board. If you’re chopping up the ingredients for your favorite potion directly on your countertop, you are in grave danger of scratches. Although some materials are enchanted to resist scratches, fine marks can still occur if you do not take the proper measurements to avoid them. Even the toughest materials need protection from ghoulie gashes.

Impact

Setting heavy objects on your countertops could result in chips and, in extreme cases, cracking. Simply be mindful of how much weight you are setting on your countertops. After all, the last thing you want is a countertop that looks like an old tombstone!

Heat

Be careful with that cauldron! You may have a highly heat resistant material, such as granite or quartz; however, we still suggest using trivets and hot pads when cooking up your potions. If you never protect your surfaces from heat, they could discolor or acquire cracks over time. It is better to be safe than sorry, and simply use a trivet or hot pad.

Watermarks

You may think that your sealant protects your countertops from water damage, but this is not entirely true. The sealant may prevent the water from seeping through and causing a stain, but pools of water are still a threat as scary as a sea monster. If you do not clean them up, they can cause a white crust to accumulate. The moral of this story is that you should wipe up spills as soon as you can.

Acidity

Here is where we will really dive into some potion mixing! Acidic foods can be very harmful to countertop surfaces. This is because some materials are composed of calcium carbonate (this is also used in Tums®, which you may need to settle your stomach after hearing this), which is a chemical base. This means that a splash of lemon juice, for example, in your spooky concoction can lead to discoloration if left on your countertop!

This was some pretty scary information, but do not let it ruin your Halloween! If any of these accidents do occur, we can fix your countertops up with a wave of our magic wand. Just give us a call and we will send our installers flying on their broomsticks to save the day!
